How to design a pump system for a sewage treatment plant?

As technology evolves, owners/operators face increasing challenges, including wastewater composition, water usage and aging infrastructure. In the case of sewage components, the composition of wastewater is difficult to predict. Sewage that contains heavy solids and fiber materials will not only affect the pump in the workstation, but will also have a negative impact on the overall system.

Usually, there are several aspects to consider.

Site Type - In terms of system design andsewagepumpselection, a wastewater station designed to treat untreated sewage will be different from a combined station that must treat wastewater and rainwater.

Pump Slot and Air Inlet Design - Depending on the design of the pump station, engineers must consider ensuring that the solids pass through the required speed while ensuring that the flow is neither too fast nor too hard to cause eddy currents or entrained air.

Tank volume - For submersible pumping stations, the tank volume is calculated based on the necessary fluid storage, which is related to the maximum switching frequency. However, dead zones and areas that may cause eddies or eddies should be avoided. The correct design and shape of the oil sump on the back of the pump helps to establish good flow and hydraulic conditions in the sump to improve solids transport and keep the sump clean.

Flow into the oil sump - if possible, the inflow should be below the water level. In general, it is necessary to prevent backflow or other geodetic conditions from flowing into the deep layers. If the inflow is above the water level, the water will jump into the sump and the air may be entrained.

Pipeline - The amount and flow of wastewater will vary over time. Different stations handle different wastewaters, and there is no detailed definition. Therefore, the optimal speed of wastewater cannot be mathematically defined. However, global wastewater transport experience provides recommended values.

Vertical Drain Pipe Diameter - A specific speed is required for wastewater transport. If the diameter is too large and there is no speed to move the load, the solids may remain in the pipe (even if the liquid passes), especially if the shift speed drops, everything will fall back to the back. Check valve or enter pump and / or oil sump. If variable speed is used, the minimum speed of diameter and speed should be considered.

Flow rate - If the flow rate is not greater than the sinking speed, solids can settle in the horizontal pipe, depending on the specific gravity, size and shape of the solid. Engineers should consider the recommended minimum speed to avoid the risk of depositing solids that may remain in the pipeline (see the recommended minimum speed).

Operational Concept - Some stations can arrange multiple pumps in parallel; others can use a line pump or frequency converter to control minimum and maximum flow and speed. The specific operation of the pump in the wastewater station will affect the treatment effect of the wastewater.
